My name is Carl Hodgson, I was born and raised in the North West, I now live in Morecambe. I am a qualified professional British Sign Language (BSL) interpreter.
I work as a British Sign Language/English interpreter, meaning that I work with d/Deaf and non-deaf people to facilitate communication where the same language is not shared. This can either be live, (whether face-to-face or on a video call), or it can be a written document, audio file or recorded video, which I can translate or transcribe.
In settings from dental appointments and school parents' evenings through to university lectures and business conferences, I have a breadth of experience working in various domains and environments.
My parents, who are both Deaf, used a combination of English and British Sign Language (BSL) at home, and so, growing up as a Child Of Deaf Adults (coda), I have been using BSL myself for many years.
I began to study BSL formally when I was in college and progressed through the first few stages whilst studying my A-Levels, I then moved to Wolverhampton where I completed my undergraduate degree in interpreting studies, graduating in 2011. After graduating I worked as an 'in-house' community interpreter for a few years, starting to take freelance work from early 2014.
I currently hold Registered Sign Language Interpreter (RSLI) status with NRCPD (Badge Number: 1012942) which I gained in March 2017.
